Remembering the wonderful dogs that we have lost.
Hawk
Rottie
This boy was so special! Hawk was in the pound and his time had been up for over a week. The kennel staff loved him and kept moving him around to try to keep him. I was contacted and agreed to take him, so he was transported to us.
Hawk was the size of a Shetland pony and so underweight it was heartbreaking. He would spend his day exploring and playing in the garden and learning how to relax. He had three good meals a day and loved everyone, but he had his special human and that was me. Hawk would follow me everywhere, and I could do anything with him.
Hawk had already had vet checks, but a week later I wasn’t happy: he wasn’t himself and his weight was a concern, so we went back to the vets. He’d lost weight; blood tests and a scan confirmed he had a mass. He wouldn’t have gotten better so we stopped the suffering. Hawk went to sleep, being covered in kisses and being told that he was loved. He was taken way too soon.

Floyd
Rottie
I was asked to help this boy who was in a kill shelter in Romania with no prospect of being homed. Many rescues had been contacted, but all had responded with a resounding no. I was a yes!
Floyd was an older boy who just wanted to be loved and have his own human. His dream came true when he was adopted. He lived happily with other dogs, horses and sheep with no issues, and he went to work and horse events with his Mum who was his human.
Very sadly, Floyd passed away a few years later. I had been in touch throughout his life, and he passed away knowing what love and a home were.
Ollie
This gorgeous old boy was relinquished as the owners were moving to Cyprus and didn’t want him any more. I went to Hull to collect him, and what a dream he was – perfect from day one!
Ollie went to live with an elderly lady who fed the local stray cats, so her only requirement was that he had to be good with cats. On arrival, Ollie chased a cat out of the garden; the lady just said “he’ll learn” because she loved him at first sight!
The lady’s family visited daily, and would fight over who Ollie would stay with at weekends if his Mum was away.
Ollie was 12 years old when he arrived, and he passed away a couple of years later. The family were heartbroken. Shortly after, his Mum passed away; I’m sure they’re back together now.

Silas
What can I say about this boy? From the moment he was spotted – a broken dog in a kill shelter, underweight, and suffering from sores – we knew he was coming to us.
Steph and John instantly fell in love, so all arrangements were made and – in February 2022 – this beautiful soul arrived. What we witnessed was heartbreaking – how could anyone do this to a dog? Even so, Silas walked in like it was written in the stars, he won the Rottie girls over, and soon had Steph and John wrapped around his paws. He got to experience beach walks and forest walks that he loved, as well as holidays in caravans, cottages and boats. Silas was spoilt and loved beyond his wildest dreams.
Unfortunately Silas passed away far too soon. He was an amazing gentleman from day one, and we still talk about him with so much love.

Pip
What a beautiful, gentle soul this little one had. Pip came to me because her Mum had gone into hospital with a very poor prognosis. Pip was already an old lady; she’d been living in the home with people going in to feed and walk her.
I collected Pip and, from the moment she met me, she never gave me any problem. All Pip wanted was a warm comfy bed, treats and a human to cuddle and love her. This is exactly what she got when she went to live with her new Mum – a lady who’d retired so was around all day.
Unfortunately Pip passed away a couple of years later.

Ria
Ria came to me through our own Caren Chapman. She approached me because Ria’s owner was in a hospice and was holding on to make sure Ria was safe.
Ria went to live with two wonderful friends of mine where she had a wonderful life, until she passed away.
Pippa
I was asked to help with this little one, whose life in Romania had been spent on a chain.
Pippa was the sweetest little girl. After a bath and a nice dinner, she would climb onto a soft fluffy dog bed and go into the deepest sleep; it was lovely to watch. When she was awake, her tail never stopped wagging.
Pippa went to live with her retired Mum, and had four good years before she passed away knowing she was loved.
