Dogs Homed

Here are some of our success stories:

Buster

Buster came in as an old boy (age 12-15), who needed some TLC, warmth and comfort. He’s a mixture of terrier breeds, and started underweight at 8.9kg.

After arriving, Buster met other dogs (male and female) and behaved brilliantly. He was also clean in the house, liked a walk and proved very sprightly for his age. He didn’t like having his feet touched, but a check-up with the vet showed that he didn’t have any medical issues (apart from dental work).

Buster needed someone who would be home for most of the day as, after being left in kennels for many months, he understandably had some separation anxiety. Thankfully we were able to find him a wonderful new home fairly quickly.

Ludo

Ludo is a goofy 8 month old Saluki lurcher puppy. He came to us having seen very little of the world – just the inside of a house. Despite that, he proved that he could travel really well and – although strong on the lead to begin with – he was able to settle down nicely. He loves zoomies, quickly discovered toys and started to play, and learnt to sit and not snatch. He also realised that walking into a house didn’t mean he was going to be shut in.

Ludo is a lovely boy – giddy and adorable. After vaccination, chipping and worming, we were able to transfer him into the care of a specialist rescue near Blackpool which had a waiting list for sighthounds like him.

Cilla

Cilla is a small poodle mix who arrived at approximately one year old. She was immediately found to be great in the house, fantastic with dogs, and good with cats too.

Unfortunately, Cilla had suffered at the hands of humans; precisely what she endured, we don’t know. She arrived terrified of human touch in any form, but we promptly got to work on this – strictly at Cilla’s pace.

Cilla soon started to relax in the house and it wasn’t long before she was happy to sleep in the same room as us, and showed signs of wanting to play. After a bit more work, Cilla would gingerly take fresh chicken from our fingers – albeit with her neck at full stretch.

Happily a vet check showed nothing abnormal, so Cilla was chipped, vaccinated and wormed. Only days later, a family fell in love with her, and Cilla was successfully rehomed.

Eula

Eula was picked up as a stray, about four years old and in very poor condition: heavily matted and nervous. We started by making sure that she was clipped, vaccinated, chipped and wormed. In foster, Eula lived happily with multiple dogs and proved to be great in the car and good in the house.

After a successful cherry eye operation, Eula had a meet-and-greet with a family which went really well and was followed by more visits until they made the decision to adopt her.

Max

Max is a young, loving Saluki lurcher who was rescued from a home where he had had to be separated from the other dogs for his safety. All he had seen of the outside world was the garden. Luckily we were quickly able to find him a wonderful home in the Herefordshire countryside with new friend Milly.

Milly

A 14 years young Jack Russell mix, Milly was found by an estate agent, abandoned in an empty house. A Rottweiler was with her, but sadly he’d gone off his back end, and the kindest thing to do was stop his suffering and let him go to the bridge.

Milly then found herself in the pound and was stressing a lot. She was homed, but then returned the next day because she wouldn’t use the cat flap – yes, that really was their excuse.

I was asked if I could help, and fortunately I had a great home waiting, who have already had an oldie from me, so Milly has gone to live with them in the middle of nowhere.

Betsy

Betsy came to us when her owner died, and her owner’s family decided to cast her out on the streets because they didn’t want her.

Luckily we were quickly able to find a good home for Betsy with another old beagle.

Rosie

Meet our old lady Rosie. This girl’s story was truly heartbreaking: she’d been in kennels for two years as a social services case. We don’t know precisely what she’d been through and never will, but we could tell she’d experienced some pretty bad trauma as, from the moment we met Rosie, lots of things upset her: she didn’t like to be picked up, she cowered slightly when you went to fuss her, and she didn’t like being handled or receiving attention around her face.

In Rosie’s first medical check, Sarah the vet found that her teeth were bad and there was a sore point on the right side of her face which could be the site of a tooth abscess. Rosie’s nails were very long and she went into a total meltdown when we just looked at them. Trying to vaccinate Rosie was a challenge, because she panicked and thought that anything we wanted to do would hurt her. Rosie was eventually wormed, vaccinated and chipped, then put on steroids for her skin, and was later given a dental, nail trim, and deep ear check.

At 4.9kg, Rosie was underweight, but hypoallergenic kibble and chicken soon made a difference. Meanwhile she was made more comfortable with a new clean soft collar and a little coat, plus teddy bear blankets in her bed.

Rosie has now been lucky enough to find a long term foster home, where she will celebrate her 20th birthday in December.

Teddy

Yorkshire Terrier

Teddy’s time was up in the pound and he was due to be put to sleep, but Rottie Rumble & Friends Rescue took him on and he came straight into foster. He was initially thought to be four years old, but was later discovered to be eight-and-a-half.

Teddy had a major flea infestation when he arrived at the pound, but they had treated him so all the fleas were gone when he arrived – but even so his poor little body was screamingly itchy. Teddy also had such infected and swollen ears that the slightest touch had him screaming and squirming to get away. After a few weeks of steroids and antibiotics, these problems were brought under control and attention turned to on-going management through a special diet.

While enduring all of these medical challenges, Teddy quickly proved himself to be a very good boy – walking nicely on the lead, behaving well with new people and most new dogs, and enjoying access to a large stash of toys and wide range of yummy treats! He also slotted in beautifully with the five other dogs at the foster home… all of which led to another case of “failed fosterers” as he ended up being adopted by his foster family.

Rosie

We picked up this little one from a very poor situation: she had an ear infection, skin condition, full anal glands, tape worms… She immediately had a vet check and began treatment. She also had bad teeth so was booked in for a dental.

Rosie is an old lady – virtually blind and hard of hearing. She’s a gentle girl who loves a gentle stroll with plenty of time to sniff. She loves a fuss and will cuddle up to you.

Rosie has now found a retirement home which will give her love and comfort for her remaining time.

Raya

Raya came to me from Romania in 2020. I had no idea what to expect, but this girl is amazing! She is so happy and wanted to please which made her a dream to train.

Raya left a couple of weeks later. Her new parents met her, along with their existing dog Humphrey, and once Raya started to play I was happy.

Raya is now loving her best life. I get updates, and know she is doted on.

This one made my eyes leak when she left me!

Linus

German Shepherd

Unfortunately Linus’ Dad passed away and his elderly Mum was struggling. I’m good friends with their daughter and she reached out for help.

After over 4,500 shares on Facebook, the number of applications for him was bonkers! His new family had to be right for him, and thankfully his new Mum and Dad are perfect.

Linus is such a good boy, good with dogs and people, good to walk, good in the car… he is perfect. He is very loved; I’ve been to see him a few times since I homed him, and he’s a happy relaxed boy.

Raine

What a beautiful girl! When the RSPCA visited her original owner, they removed four dogs but left three, including Raine whose condition was not considered bad enough to warrant her removal?! She came to us with a flea allergy, and was severely underweight at 18.3kg.

Raine had all her vet work, but couldn’t be spayed as she was in season. Nonetheless, a long-time friend contacted me (he was on my waiting list) and said, “she’s the one“. As I knew him and his wife well, I was happy for Raine to go into this new home knowing she would want for nothing.

I have stayed in regular contact and have witnessed Raine get built back up to strength slow and steady. At her last weigh-in she was 27.8kg! Her coat has virtually grown back and she will be spayed in three months.

Raine lives with Magic, her Dobermann brother.

Pablo

Pablo arrived as an urgent case after being in a home for just two weeks! The owner had decided he wasn’t for her and she didn’t want him any more?!

Pablo was severely overweight, weighing in at 12.1kg. We planned on him being with us until he’d shed some weight but, when the chance arose to home him with a friend I’d known for twelve years, it was too good an opportunity to turn down. I know they will continue his diet, and someone is home all day so he won’t stress. We’ve had updates and Pablo is settling in well and playing with Luna.

Bonnie

Gorgeous Bonnie (Bon-Bon) came to us as an emergency welfare case. She was one of two dogs kept in a crate and purposefully starved. The other dog had a body condition score of 1/10 and was accepted by another rescue, while Bonnie was just marginally better at 2/10.

Bonnie came in to foster with one of our experienced foster families and their pack, and she fitted straight in. Her vet checks were all good; Bonnie just needed a little time to get her tummy right, and then to gradually begin the process of putting some weight on her.

Bonnie was outstanding in her foster home and very quickly found her forever family, including a fabulous little fur-sister.

Briar

Beagle

Briar was in the pound and her time was up. We rescued her and she walked straight into my pack with no issues. Briar was quickly reserved then rehomed.

Tilly

Jack Russell X

Tilly is a beautiful little girl who was rescued from being put to sleep at the pound. She was said not to be good with other dogs, and no-one else offered to take her, so in she came to RR&F. Within hours Tilly was running in my pack – the sweetest little one who had come so close to losing her life.

Tilly now has an amazing life living in a family with two other dogs, two kids and her adults. She goes out and about with the horses, on the quad bike and tractor – even in the boat! Enjoying lovely group dog walks, she’s deservedly spoiled.

Charlie

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Charlie came into RR&F as his family were struggling and asked if we could help. They had a toddler who was feeding Charlie and causing issues because Charlie was supposed to be restricted to a special diet.

Charlie is now homed locally with a very fun-loving family – always laughing and having fun. Harvey, their twenty-something year old, absolutely adores him.

Baxter

Rottie

Baxter came from a home where he was very much loved, but to keep him safe and do what was best for him he came into RR&F.

Baxter was a perfect fit for his new family, and they enjoy lots of walks and adventures together.

Tia

Rottie

Tia was taken from a drug dealer in an emergency situation. This bitch stole my heart, and even while the adoption papers were being signed I nearly cancelled the adoption and kept her – she is perfect in every way!

Tia now lives with a family not too far from me, and has a little granddaughter whom she adores.

Si

Shih Tzu

Si’s owner was end of life. I was contacted as I had a dog from the family previously… I had to go to Scotland to collect Si. He had eye issues and other problems but this boy was so close to being a keeper; he was adorable. After a very large vet bill and me making sure that everything was ok, Si went to his forever home in the Black Country, where he lives with a sister.

Peggy

Rottie

I took Peggy before I started RR&F but I will always be her RBU. Peggy was homed through me to two amazing people who I’m proud to call friends. She lives with two other Rotties.

Jenni

Cockerpoo

Jenni’s time was up in the pound and I had a lovely couple on my waiting list who had been waiting a while for a poodle cross due to his allergies.

After her vet work was carried out, Jenni went to her new family and has a virtually identical twin for a sister! They do lots of camper-van holidays and Mum works from home so she’s a very happy girl.

Daisy & Bella

7 year old Maltese x Llaso & 6 year old Poodle x Shih Tzu

Very sadly their Dad passed away, then it was found they were going to lose their Mum too. Because I knew the family where these girls were, I agreed that their mum could meet the potential new owners – a lovely mother and daughter in a very quiet, calm home. Julie their Mum was happy, and once she’d had time to say goodbye I collected the dogs and they went straight to their new home. The family has a caravan at the seaside and someone is home all day, so these little ones were just perfect for this home.

Dylan-Thomas

Patterdale & all-round naughty Terrier!

This boy came from a family with a baby in the home whom he would not accept, so he came to us and within a day was a “foster fail”.

He now lives with Steph and John and has the best life.

Bobby-D

This little man was in the pound and his time was up. He had terrible skin and was seriously underweight when he arrived. Bobby had lots of interest but no-one was quite right for this boy, so he stayed with us for two years until the right home came up. He too lives on the Yorkshire Moors, next door to Lucy our retriever, and is having a wonderful life.

Daisy

6 month old Rottie

This girl needed urgent help. Her situation was heartbreaking: she was kept on a chain in a cave in the mountains of Cyprus.

Daisy went to an amazing lady who stuck with her and worked through all of her issues: she’d had minimal human contact, been fed rarely, never been in a house or on a lead… the list goes on…

Daisy is now – thanks to her Mum – a well-adjusted calm little bitch.

7 year old Golden Retriever

Lucy had been a breeding bitch and only ever been kept in a kennel.

She is beautiful and now has an amazing home on the Yorkshire Moors.

Jackson

Jack Russell Terrier

Jackson is a beautiful Jack Russell who had been shot in the head then subjected to an attempted drowning. This boy is so so beautiful and he stole my heart! He’s now with a Mum & Dad who adore him.

Duke

7 year old Rottie

Duke’s owner was critically ill in hospital. He had tried contacting many rescues but was turned away by all of them. This boy is stunning with a temperament to die for.

After being unconscious for two weeks, Duke’s Dad spoke two days after we took in his dog. He asked how’s Duke and where is he, and was shown photos of the dog safe and happy. He then said thank you and passed away 😥

Duke now has a wonderful home in Cornwall.
