Bear’s Legacy

A little bit about Mr Bear, for anyone who didn’t see or follow him on Facebook…

Bear suffered so much neglect in the year before I was alerted to him. He was kept outside in a garden which was often muddy and wet, and sometimes experienced freezing conditions. When we collected him, he was very unstable on his back legs, he had arthritis, and he was matted and dirty. He was a long-haired Rottie and, being left to fend for himself in shocking conditions, you can imagine his state.

Bear came to us, and a grooming session or two were booked to get him clean. After being groomed, he felt much better and he loved life again. He rallied and the spark came back into his eyes. He was a joy to have around. There was a huge outpouring of love from all around the world for our boy. He had parcels arriving daily and he soaked up every ounce of affection and attention that was shown to him – and he deserved every bit of it.

Very sadly, we lost Bear six weeks later. He went to sleep smothered in love, and is now back with his foster mum where he was happy – and that’s his final resting place.

To honour Bear’s memory and to ensure that he will live on in people’s hearts and minds, we have decided that each year we will choose one older Rottie to help in some way. It may be to help with a vet bill, transport, emergency boarding, or even take one into our care if we have space.

We pledge that in Bear’s memory we will strive to make a better life for an older Rottie each year.
